China-EU Hydrogen Energy Industry Forum successfully held
On April 15, the China-EU Hydrogen Energy Industry Forum was successfully held in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia. This forum is sponsored by the International Hydrogen Energy Center under the guidance of Beijing Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Mintal Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Topsoe (China) Company, VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Darhan-Muminggan Joint County Party Committee, Darhan-Muminggan Joint County People's Government , the People's Government of the Bayan Obo Mining District and other government and enterprise units provided strong support to this forum.
As a grand international gathering for hydrogen energy , the China-EU Hydrogen Energy Industry Forum focuses on agendas including energy security and energy transition, aiming to seize the historical opportunity of energy transition to deepen exchanges and cooperation between China and Europe, and actively promote the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry. Nearly 200 representatives from embassies, consulates, governments and enterprises of seven countries and regions including China, Australia, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization participated in the forum online and offline to jointly paint a blue print for the global hydrogen energy industry.
During the opening ceremony, Huang Zhiqiang, Member of the Standing Committee and Executive Vice Chairman of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region, Zhang Rui, Deputy Secretary of the Baotou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, Xie Dong, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Branch of China Construction Bank Corporation, and Fu Xiaolong, Vice President of Beijing Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute, Henrik Bruun Martens, Commercial Counselor of the Royal Danish Embassy in China, Grace Carey, Minister Counselor of the British Embassy in China, Timo Verheij, Climate Counselor of the Royal Dutch Embassy in China, Gao Peng, Senior Commercial Officer of the Norwegian Embassy in China, Jessica Brown, Counselor for Energy Resources and Climate Change of the Australian Embassy in China, and other domestic and foreign government and enterprise representatives delivered speeches to convey the booming development of the global hydrogen energy industry and the willingness of countries to deepen cooperation in the field.
During the keynote report session, Ouyang Minggao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Tsinghua University, Lennart van der Burg, renewable hydrogen energy project and business development manager of the Netherlands National Institute of Applied Sciences, He Min, director of the Scientific Research & Knowledge Exchange Office of the University of Nottingham Ningbo , Martin Freer, director of the Energy Research Accelerator, Fan Xiaolei, professor of the Center for Green Chemistry and Energy at the University of Nottingham Ningbo (Beacons of Excellence), Fu Xiaolong, deputy director of Beijing Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute, Yang Dajun, President of Topsoe China, Zhang Guoqiang, Chairman of Beijing SinoHytec, Dr. Sergey Ulyakhin, Chief Technology Officer of China and Southeast Asia of Hexagon Purus of Norway, Alexander Wemme, hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry manager of VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment (Shanghai), Gunther Beger, director of the Sustainable Development Goals Innovation and Economic Transformation Department of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and other guests respectively focused on China and He delivered speeches on topics such as the development of hydrogen energy technology in Europe and the industrial practice of hydrogen energy technology in China and Europe.
Academician Ouyang Minggao delivered a speech entitled "With green hydrogen production and fuel cells as the leader, driving the development of the entire green hydrogen industry chain", he elaborated on the strategic position of green hydrogen in the country's energy and industrial transformation, the development direction of green hydrogen production and fuel cells as well as the commercialization trend of the entire hydrogen energy industry chain. Lennart van der Burg introduced the Netherlands’ hydrogen strategy, industrial layout and current situation from aspects such as how the Netherlands National Institute of Applied Sciences accelerates hydrogen energy innovation, the potential of the next generation electrolyzers and offshore hydrogen production. He called for the world to accelerate the development of the hydrogen energy industry. He Min, Martin Freer, and Fan Xiaolei published a combined report on hydrogen energy industry, academia, and research. Among them, He Min and Fan Xiaolei introduced the progress of the University of Nottingham Ningbo in sustainable hydrogen research, sustainable heavy trucks, maritime and railway transportation, etc.; Martin Freer focused on the new hydrogen energy economic industry-university-research platform HyDEX Project and its application and planning in the fields of industry, transportation, agriculture, and energy storage. In his keynote report "Building a Global Leading Zero-Carbon Industrial System with Hydrogen Energy Technology", Fu Xiaolong emphasized that green hydrogen is an important path for the zero-carbon transformation of China's industrial structure, and highlighted Tsinghua Industrial R&D Institute’s work centered on hydrogen energy technology. Including breakthroughs and achievements in research and development of key hydrogen energy technologies, hydrogen energy equipment integration and testing systems, and large-scale water electrolysis hydrogen production and ammonia synthesis. Yang Dajun introduced the role of green ammonia in accelerating global energy transformation and the global application and project progress of Topsoe's green ammonia synthesis technology. Zhang Guoqiang published a keynote report on "Current Status and Practice of China's Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Industry" and introduced the core technology R&D industrial layout, and market size of China's fuel cells from the industry current status and expectations. Dr. Sergey Ulyakhin focused on the technological progress of type IV cylinders and their application in heavy-duty vehicles, buses, compressed natural gas and hydrogen transportation. Alexander Wemme introduced the application and solutions of PVD coating technology in electrolyzers, bipolar plates, etc., focusing on the application of electron beam evaporation technology in coating to reduce the cost of core products of fuel cells such as bipolar plates and the important role the technology plays in lowering cost. Gunther Beger said in his keynote report that climate change is a global challenge and green hydrogen is one of the important paths to achieve energy transformation. UNIDO highly recognizes the role of green hydrogen in the decarbonization process of global industrialization and will continue to promote the development of the global hydrogen energy industry and provide technical support for the development of hydrogen energy. The successful convening of the China-EU Hydrogen Energy Industry Forum has established an exchange and cooperation platform for cooperation between China and Europe in hydrogen energy technology development and demonstration project. The insights of government and enterprise representatives from various countries on hydrogen energy development have provided a basis for building a new development pattern for the hydrogen energy industry. The pattern provides a path and direction, which will create a new situation of technology sharing, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation for the development of the global hydrogen energy industry.
